Smallville actor takes on the mantle of Flash Gordon!

Again, I'm talking about the small screen but you can forgive me, it is Flash Gordon after all! The Hollywood Reporter through Moviehole are telling us that Eric Johnson, the former regular on Smallville has signed up to play Flash Gordon in the new 22 hour series for the Sci-Fi channel. The actor is 27 years old so although he is quite young, he's not as young as the picture from Smallville on the left shows, but that's the only image I could find. If you click here, to visit his IMDB page you will get a better look at how the guy looks now. The series which is said to be a contemporary take on the character will premiere in August. Rick Rosenthal will helm the first two episodes from a Peter Hume script. Casting is said to be under-way for Gordon's fellow space adventurers with production scheduled to begin May 1st in Vancouver. Where this leaves the Flash Gordon movie is anyone's guess, but I suppose it's pretty obvious that if the show becomes a hit early on... a movie won't be too far behind. source - moviehole, the hollywood reporter
