Spectre: 10 Awesome Things We Learned About Bond 24

8. Farewell To Quantum

Back in the rightly-maligned Quantum Of Solace, audiences were introduced to another super-secret, super-evil, super-powerful organisation, Quantum. Although probably dreampt up as a lazy way to justify that stupid title (it still doesn't make sense), when juxtaposed with the Goldfinger-style oil murder this was generally taken as the modern, Craig-era inheritor of SPECTRE's evil crown. Now, with the original group taking prominence once again, it looks like Quantum's being pushed aside, their entry in the franchise exorcised from the canon. Their absence in Skyfall already suggested the filmmakers weren't interested in dealing with Mr White and co., but the continued snub in favour of the classic terrorists all but confirms it. Given how messy an introduction their's was, it's really hard to find this anything other than an exciting step forward. Perhaps SPECTRE will reveal it was using Quantum as a front, although don't be surprised if Mendes and co. side-step the whole movie entirely; Bond isn't a franchise that cares much about continuity.
