Spectre: 5 Things The New James Bond Trailer Got Wrong

4. Remember Mr. White?

Speaking of the not-quite-forgotten wounds of Bond 22, the trailer's mainly dominated with Bond tracking down a mysterious man who's eventually revealed to be... some guy with a beard? OK, so it's clearly Mr. White, a key member of secret organisation Quantum who was behind much of the plots of Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace, but to those who aren't as clued into Bond's ever-developing mythology it might as well be a new character. White's inclusion is very interesting. When Skyfall dispensed with all the Vesper-angst, many assumed the whole Quantum story-arc was done with, something the title of Spectre seemed to confirm (Quantum only existed because Eon didn't have the rights to Fleming's original villain conglomerate). Clearly that's not the case, which shows Mendes and co. are keen to have a clear and established Bond canon (something hinted at by showing his parents' graves in Skyfall). Within the world of the film, this is a pretty strong move. However, this isn't the finished film. In a trailer, invoking the worst Bond movie since Roger Moore left and using a character few remember as a semi-major reveal is a surefire way to annoy those who care and alienate those who don't.
