Spectre: 5 Things The New James Bond Trailer Got Wrong

3. Poor Photoshop

Computers have changed how we make movies (and mostly for the better). Editing is no longer a manual chore, cinema distribution is as easy as downloading a file and, of course, near-photoreal effects can be achieved with ease. Sure, some use CGI to obnoxious levels to realise things that could be done much more effectively practically, but as a general tool it's pretty invaluable. So why, in an age where Andy Serkis can deliver nuanced and believable performances as apes and gangly monsters, do mocked-up images of movie stars when they're young still look like they've been made with left-handed scissors and Pritt Sticks? Bad CGI in a trailer is understandable (its unlikely effects shots will be fully rendered this far ahead of release), but poor photoshopping in 2015 is just ridiculous. One of the artefacts from Skyfall seen in the Spectre trailer is a burnt picture of a young James Bond with (presumably) his father and some other, hidden person. And you know James is definitely the kid because Daniel Craig's face has been layered and textured and softened and brushed to hell on top of a kid who definitely wasn't a child 007.
