Spider-Man: 15 Actors Who Almost Played Major Roles

Yes, Bruce Campbell was in all three Sam Raimi Spider-Man films, but parts as a ring announcer, a snooty usher, and a maître d' are hardly roles for the legend behind Ash from the Evil Dead films. As a reported close friend of Raimi, Campbell was tipped by Raimi for a MAJOR role as Mysterio in the canceled fourth entry in the Raimiverse.

The fourth film would have pitted Black Cat, Vulture, and Mysterio against Parker, but Raimi canned the project due to script issues. Concept art for the appearance of Mysterio is still flying around the internet - you may notice that the look of Quentin Beck stuck close to the comic source material, but the man under the dome looks a lot like Campbell. Undoubtedly Campbell's manic performance would have been either amazing or truly dreadful, but, could anything be worse than Topher Grace's Venom?
