As reported by the ALWAYS reliable Yibada, Spider-Man: Homecoming could still be the set-up for the MCU's version of the Sinister Six.

They point to a report from Melty that claims that the three villains, plus the possibility that Michael Mondo is playing Carnage is evidence that Sinister Six is still coming.

Sinister Six has never OFFICIALLY been cancelled, even if the development seems to have gone pretty quiet since the death of the Amazing Spider-Man films. So this might be right entirely by accident, which is probably as much credit as you can give it.

There's no actual proof yet that Carnage is even in it (and it would be a very strange move by Marvel to have more than 3 villains involved when 3 was too many for Spider-Man 3 AND The Amazing Spider-Man 2. So even if it does set up Sinister Six, the specifics will probably be different.
