Spider-Man: Homecoming - 8 Villains The Sequel Could Introduce To The MCU
5. Mysterio
A failed special effects wiz who uses his illusions to break into the world of super-villainy, Mysterio is another Sinister Six co-founder who's yet to appear on screen.
That almost changed many years back when Sam Raimi was Spider-Man’s cinematic steward - he planned on casting Bruce Campbell as the trickster in his ill-fated fourth Tobey Maguire movie.
As a part of the original Sinister Six lineup, there’s always a possibility that Mysterio could rear his plexiglass-encased head in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it’s debatably whether his box of tricks would fit in from a tonal perspective.
That said, he's also a stuntman with enough combat training to match Spidey in scrap and his knowledge of robotics would be a great asset to the tech-rich MCU.
Perhaps Mysterio could show up in a more minor capacity in the sequel, serving as part of a primary villain's crew, like the Shocker and Tinkerer did in Homecoming.
But further adding to the uncertainty, Sony Pictures is reportedly working on Spider-Man spinoff movies focusing on Mysterio and Kraven, which could rule the pair out of the Homecoming follow-up.
