Spider-Man Movies: 7 Perfect Performances & 7 That Sucked

2. Michael Keaton - Adrian Toomes/Vulture

It didn't look like anyone could ever offer a villain performance in a Spider-Man movie that would rival Molina's Doc Ock, but then along came a comic book movie veteran armed with a script that painted him as part-monster and part-champion of the people and the world was shook.

Having played Batman and then skewered his own career so wonderfully in Birdman, Keaton took on another winged creature in the shape of Vulture, who was a villain of necessity, borne out of the wounds created by Tony Stark and the Avengers. He and his gang would become superhero accountability personified and the same pillars of performance that went into him playing Batman and Bruce Wayne informed his dual roles here of Adrian Toomes and Vulture.

There's an almost monster movie approach to the latter, but it's in the former that Keaton really shines and that scene that sees him discover the truth about Peter and then threaten him as he drives him and his daughter to the homecoming dance is just glorious.
