Back in May of 1978, Tokyo Channel 12 launched a new television series "based" on Spider-Man that would run for a total of 41 episode. Saying it was based on the comic book character of the same name is a bit of a stretch, but the costume was actually on point.

Most of Spider-Man's origin story and some other elements were modified for the Japanese audience. Spider-Man's real identity was changed to Takuya Yamashiro, a young motocross racer who fights against the Iron Cross Army thanks to his super spider-senses.

He also has a gigantic, 25,000 ton robot called Leopardon he uses to fight off enlarged monsters. Surprisingly, the whole thing was endorsed by the folks at Marvel, but it really wasn't made for an American audience.

In terms of the costume, it was a pretty good approximation of Spider-Man's red and blue suit. It looked just like the old Steve Ditko drawings with one notable exception. On his left wrist, he wore a silver Spider-Bracelet, which shot webbing and stored his suit when he wasn't wearing it.
