Spider-Man Homecoming: 5 Scenes We Need (And 5 We Don't)

Spider-Man has always possessed a lighter tone than his comic-book counterparts. Where Batman broods, Superman snaps necks and Tony Stark dives deep into a pit of alcoholism, your friendly neighborhood web-slinger works best when he's cracking one-liners and enjoying various high school hi-jinks.

To reinforce this light-hearted tone, the inclusion of J. Jonah Jameson seems like a no-brainer. Oscar winner JK Simmons - who played the part to perfection in Sam Raimi€™s Spider-Man trilogy - has been cast as Commissioner Gordon in DC€™s The Justice League, so he's out of the picture. Fortunately, there are a large number of diverse talents that could easily step into the shoes of the Daily Bugle€™s editor-in-chief.

These range from Bryan Cranston to Jeff Goldblum to Ice Cube, who displayed his scene-stealing, grumpy boss capabilities in 21 and 22 Jump Street. J. Jonah was absent from both Amazing Spider-Man movies, which contributed to the failure of that particular incarnation; they were humorless, attempting to mimic the Nolan Batman vibe when in reality they should've embraced the light-heartedness that Spider-Man is known for.

Mr Jameson can give us this tone in spades, offering some relatable comic relief in a world of superheroes and God-like abilities. Everyone has experienced that awkward boss-colleague dynamic - to a certain extent - and Jonah can offer us a genuine human connection in a super powered world that may have few of them.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
