Yes, obviously Rhys Ifans' take on the character for The Amazing Spider-Man wasn't exactly beloved, but Curt Connors is still an important figure near the top of the rank of Spidey's villains. And he deserves a more definitive take.

The great appeal of the character is his parallel with Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde; a duplicitous, jarring pair of personalities who are entirely contradictory. Marvel have previous on that front, thanks to the way Mark Ruffalo's Hulk is portrayed, and Keaton's work building difference between Batman and Bruce Wayne would fit that requirement brilliantly.

A Beetlejuice-like renovation for Lizard too would be a nice evolution, as making him darkly charismatic (and thus more like Hyde) would push that likeness forward in a way that would service the character. And of course, introducing him as one of Parker's teachers is an easy in-road for Homecoming's school setting.
