5. Andrew Stanton
Why He Should: Poor Andrew Stanton. The relative failure of Disney's Mars-based alien adventure
John Carter last year means that this guy's name has become unfairly synonymous with "disaster." But remember it was Stanton who helmed
WALL-E for Pixar back in 2008: in our opinion, he needs to be given another chance with an epic, especially when you consider that two of his movies thus far have been space-based. Stanton has shown us - on a visual level at least - that he can helm live-action effectively. And though
John Carter's storytelling aspects weren't quite up to standard, you can't argue that Stanton is a brilliant storyteller otherwise:
WALL-E is sensational, and the kind of gig that should get you into all kinds of places.
Why He Shouldn't: Aside from the mis-fire that was
John Carter, Stanton has returned to Pixar to start work on
Finding Nemo 2, and might have poised himself to stick with animation.
His tastes are - like Brad Bird's - arguably better suited to that of the
Star Wars universe.
