Star Trek 3: 10 Reasons Why We Already Know It Will Suck

10. Useless Klingons

7 klingons The rumours are that Star Trek 3 will focus on the war with the Klingons. They made a few references to it in Into Darkness and introduced the Klingons as a mask wearing, jewellery loving, aggressive species. But if they do plan on making the Klingons the central antagonists in the next movie, it makes you wonder why they made them look like such losers in Into Darkness. We should have had a teaser that the Klingons are a force you don€™t want to face. We should have been left scared of them but at the same time, dripping with anticipation at the thought that the Enterprise will have to go toe-to-toe with them at some point. But instead, we see them fail to detect the Enterprise cross to their side of the Neutral Zone; they don€™t detect any communications aimed at their planet or even investigate Kirk, Spock and Uhura fly an unauthorised ship into their home planet. Alerts should have gone off all over the place, but the only reason they discovered Kirk, Spock and Uhura on their secret mission is because a random patrol spotted them. That doesn€™t make the Klingons look very competent. We witnessed Khan kill a dozen of them (single handily) as well as blow up what I€™m assuming is a couple of Birds of Prey. And the looming war that everyone was so worried about? No mention of it in the final speech given by Kirk in Into Darkness. It€™s like the Klingons were nothing to worry about anymore. This was a chance for the Nu-Klingons to make a mark. Not just look visually aggressive but show the audience how awesome they actually are. But like everything else, the focus was on how they look and very little thought was give to their long-term development. That is why a Klingon war in Star Trek 3 has lost a lot of its excitement, even before it€™s started.
