15. The Star Wars Language In-Joke
Right down the cast list, there's a name you might not recognise unless you're a Youtube fan: Sara Maria Forsberg appears credited as "Kalara Alien VO". She offers the English translation of Kalara, the alien sent to Yorktown in distress to entice the Enterprise beyond the Nebula.
Her casting is an industry in-joke, in effect, as she was a Youtube viral sensation who was improbably cast in Star Wars: The Force Awakens to invent an alien language for the film.
Having impressed there, she was cast again by Abrams to do exactly the opposite.
