Star Trek: Every In Development Movie & TV Show, Ranked
7. Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek Movie
A somewhat more out-there Trek project which seems to be getting closer and closer to reality is a new movie written by none other than Quentin Tarantino. Early reports that Tarantino was scripting an R-rated Star Trek movie with The Revenant scribe Mark L Smith had some fans concerned. Simon Pegg - who played Scotty in the three Kelvin movies and co-wrote Beyond - was quick to reassure them that it wouldn't turn out to be 'Pulp Fiction in space.'
Whether the movie would use the Kelvin-timeline crew, or if it even focuses on Kirk and the Enterprise, other established characters or a completely different different crew is as yet unknown. It's also not clear whether Tarantino would direct the project, or hand the reins to some one else. He has long said that he would only direct ten movies in his career, and his soon to be released Once Upon A Time In Hollywood will be his ninth.
Regardless, it seems the demise of the fourth Kelvin universe film may well have cleared the way for the Tarantino film. Management shake-ups at Paramount Pictures - holders of the Trek movie rights - seem to have put an emphasis on continuing franchises like Mission: Impossible, Terminator and Star Trek. In an interview with the New York Times, Paramount motion-picture group president Wyck Godfrey said, "Imagine, for instance, Paramount giving 'Star Trek' to Quentin Tarantino. Suddenly people’s eyes light up,"
Whatever role he winds up filling if the project goes ahead, having one of cinema's most gifted and unique minds involved is sure to lead to a fascinating end product!
