Star Wars: 10 Best Ever Uses Of The Force
2. Don’t Be Too Proud Of This Technological Terror You’ve Constructed! - A New Hope
The fact that Darth Vader is very willing to Force-choke the Empire’s own officers within an inch of their life (or, on occasion, even further) is a perfect advert for the instability and corruptibility of the Dark Side. We see it for the first time in an early scene aboard The Death Star when Vader makes his distaste for it known, saying (quite prophetically, given the film’s ending) “The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.”
After an Imperial officer scoffs at this, Vader quickly brings him to heel, choking the life out of him from across the room, delivering the classic line, “I find your lack of faith disturbing” in the process. It’s a clear win for mysticism over technology, both in that meeting room and in the audience: if ever you wanted definitive proof that Star Wars is a fairytale in space, rather than science fiction, here it is.
Have some of that, Star Trek!
