Those who are very much brushed up on their Star Wars history will likely already be aware that the great George Lucas has been trying to get his Whills out into the world for quite some time.

Journeying all the way back to the early 1970s versions of the script that would ultimately become known as "Star Wars", the mind behind this eventual inter-galactic juggernaut actually had the title of "Journal of the Whills, Part I" pencilled in for the sprawling tale.

However, in the time since that original concept of the Journal of the Whills - an ancient book detailing the events that would follow on-screen - tying the eventual tale into our own real-life world was scrapped, big screen acknowledgements of the Whills being a part of this galaxy far, far away have been few and far between.

Yet, in the enchanting Chirrut Îmwe and Baze Malbus Rogue One was able to offer up some of the last embers of a very nearly extinct order by the name of The Guardian of the Whills, with the Kyber Crystal protecting pair acting as one of the only concrete cinematic nods to Lucas' original idea for his burgeoning Skywalker Saga and wider Star Wars world as a whole.
