Star Wars: 10 Things Colin Trevorrow's Episode 9 Script Did Better Than The Rise Of Skywalker
2. It Doesn't Relegate Rose To A Minor Role
Rose Tico is hardly a fan favourite character, but arguably the most shocking of the damage-control measures Disney implemented in The Rise Of Skywalker was her relegation to a minor role with barely a minute of screen time.
Instead of allowing Rose to grow, giving her a decent arc that would have endeared audiences to the character, The Rise Of Skywalker essentially condemned the character to a piece of background scenery, adding insult to injury by introducing two new 'main' characters into the already bloated cast on top of a handful of disposable Rebellion members whose lines really could have been given to her.
The decision to ignore Rose's character seemed to be based entirely on the decision to placate the racist and sexist trolls who bullied Kelly Marie Tran off social media after the release of The Last Jedi, an especially shocking move when coupled with the reveal that Poe Dameron, the only Hispanic lead in Star Wars, started out as a drug dealer.
Not the best look, Disney.
In Duel Of The Fates, Rose accompanied Finn on his adventure to Coruscant, which would have been totally cool -- as long as it didn't pick up on the awkward kiss featured in the last film.
