Star Wars: 10 Ways The Last Jedi Gets Better On Second Watch

4. Snoke Expectations

There were audible gasps when Supreme Leader Snoke was surprisingly murdered in cold blood by Kylo Ren during The Last Jedi’s phenomenal throne room scene. Fans had spent the last two years theorising on his true identity with Darth Plagieus, Darth Maul, Mace Windu and Jar Jar Binks all tipped to be the real leader of the First Order.

And at the time, the fury was understandable. The common consensus seemed to be that Rian Johnson’s decision to axe Andy Serkis’ character was ridiculous. With Snoke gone and a petulant Ben Solo in charge, the First Order had lost its fear factor and swagger.

But, upon rewatching, we learn the sensational twist works extremely well. Snoke’s arrogance was all so very dark side – meaning he was bound to meet his comeuppance in the end, just like Palpatine did. And his death, for the sake of the story, makes sense. It means the sequel trilogy will not just be a complete rehash of the original three films. In addition to that, it is the moment where Ren truly becomes Vader’s heir, even surpassing his grandfather in the process.

While Anakin was Palpatine’s stooge, Ben is not the same.

Sport and Film. I love them both. And I'm extremely lucky to write about two of my biggest passions in life. Most of the time, I'm at the Daily Express newspaper writing about football, tennis and F1. But, when I'm out of there, I let my imagination run wild and pen down my thoughts on the film series' I love. WhatCulture gives me the chance to write about the movie industry - an industry I really care about. And for that, I'm extremely grateful. And hope you, if you're reading this, enjoy what I think about stuff.
