Star Wars: 5 Awesome Reveals From The Disney D23 Expo (And 2 That Are Worrying)
3. The Darth Vader PS4 Looks Cool And Offers Some Classic Games
Star Wars has been slapped on just about anything it could be (and several things it really shouldn't have), and while master marketer George Lucas is now retired, the franchise is under Disney's control, so don't expect the merchandising blitz to stop anytime soon. Recently, several toys (mainly Hasbro and Lego) have been leaked online, either through poorly hidden official box shots or picked up from overzealous retailers not obeying the embargo (no toys were meant to hit before Force Friday on September 4th), although nothing in that vein popped up at D23. Which is probably for the best - while the focus of this merch is on the First Order, suggesting a lack of actual plot spoilers, it's never nice to have a movie's plot spoiled by a toy. What was officially announced at D23 was a new PS4 bundle that would tie into the release of Star Wars Battlefront and Disney Infinity 3.0 (which brings Star Wars into the company's massive amiibo-apeing game), boasting a console with Vader's helmet etched into it, a DUALSHOCK 4 controller inspired by his chest-plate and a download code for playable versions of Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter and Star Wars Bounty Hunter (those classic games will be available separately). I've not yet made the next-gen jump, mainly because of a lack of enticing exclusive games (stuff like Alien: Isolation was available on the previous generations), but the release of Star Wars: Battlefront was shaping up to be an entry point. And now it looks like I've had the choice of which console to go for made for me.
