Star Wars: 5 Awesome Reveals From The Disney D23 Expo (And 2 That Are Worrying)

2. The Rogue One Cast Revealed In A Gritty, Classic Photo

Star Wars: Rogue One is shooting now, but so far there's been very little revealed about what exactly Gareth Edwards' spinoff will entail. Guess that's what happen when your big brother's freaking Episode VII. To redress the balance, D23 brought it with it several cast announcements and a confirmation that the film would be dealing with how the Rebel Alliance acquired the Death Star plans, but biggest of all was the first official still of the film. Looking nice and grimy, it put Felicity Jones' lead front and centre, flanked by Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna, Jiang Wen and Donnie Yen, who will presumably make up the team behind the galactic heist. The title and concept suggested that the film would be dealing with some guerrilla Rebels, although rumours have since suggested the team seen here are actually bounty hunters hired by the Alliance, which this allegiance-less getup appears to consolidate. What's most reassuring here is that "worn" aesthetic. One of the most novel elements of the original Star Wars in terms of feel was its used future, with dusty landscapes, dirty machines and damaged structures all in stark contrast to the polished sci-fi of the mid-seventies, and that appears to have been carried across here. No sleek Naboo cruisers here.
