One of the best things the prequel trilogy had going for it was the multitude of Jedi knights and this is one of the few elements that we're sure the new trilogy will take with it. But what it will do better is examine what it takes to be a Jedi in a galaxy that has had to have been rebuilt from scratch. Where their predecessors were confident in their authority as galactic warriors and bringers of the peace, these new Jedi will have to deal with the harsh legacy left by Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine. Enter John Boyega's character, another Jedi apprentice at the academy with Jaina. They quickly become firm friends and through them we will learn what it takes to be a Jedi as opposed to episodes two and three, which seemed to jump straight to end of Anakin's training. It's possible too that they could become the new romantic couple of the trilogy; a Jedi romance is something we haven't seen before and if they have opposing ideas on how they should train and/or deal with the new threat, then it would add the spark not seen since Princess Leia fell for a 'stuck up, half-witted scruffy looking nerf herder. Like Daisy Ridley's character, John Boyega's Jedi apprentice will spend a good chunk of the first film waiting in the wings, finally getting to use his skills in the final battle, For fans of the expanded universe, there are unlikely to be clues as to which character he is playing; the likelihood is that his Jedi will be someone we haven't seen in the books before.
