Star Wars: 7 Things Revealed About Snoke Since The Last Jedi (And 3 That Need Answering)

2. Snoke Liked The Idea Of Rey Being His Kylo Ren Replacement

Despite Snoke not being a sith, and therefore less inclined to take an apprentice, it seems the First Order’s leader does not fancy ruling the galaxy alone. And, when he contemplates taking Kylo Ren out of the equation for his Starkiller Base failings, Snoke falls in love with the idea of making Rey his apprentice.

In the Last Jedi movie, it seems to skim over this point. We see Kylo give Rey to his master, where he tortures her and demands she ‘give him everything’. And though Snoke revels in her anger - the line ‘such spunk’ really stands out - there is never a feeling the Supreme Leader wants the Jakku scavengers to serve by his side. Instead, he ensures she is held in place and orders Kylo to cut her down. As we now know, the young Skywalker had different plans of his own.

In the novel, however, we learn more about Snoke and what, specifically, he thinks about Rey. He finds her fascinating, left stunned by her powers, and muses how she would have been a key ally for him on past endeavours and, more specifically, his rise to power. But he acknowledges she is unlikely to turn and that’s when he orders Kylo to fulfil the deed of wiping her out.

Snoke wanting Rey as his apprentice, though, is a lot different to Return of the Jedi, where the Emperor does his utmost to turn Luke. On that occasion, Palpatine merely wanted Skywalker to be another imprisoned servant. Snoke, however, would have used Rey to achieve his evil goals. An equal, rather than puppet.

Sport and Film. I love them both. And I'm extremely lucky to write about two of my biggest passions in life. Most of the time, I'm at the Daily Express newspaper writing about football, tennis and F1. But, when I'm out of there, I let my imagination run wild and pen down my thoughts on the film series' I love. WhatCulture gives me the chance to write about the movie industry - an industry I really care about. And for that, I'm extremely grateful. And hope you, if you're reading this, enjoy what I think about stuff.
