Star Wars Episode 7: 10 Rumours That Have Us Anxious

2. The Death of Han Solo

Okay, so Harrison Ford isn't the only guy in the galaxy to not like Star Wars. Sir Alec Guinness, actor who played the original Obi-Wan Kenobi, reportedly hated his most famous role, asking kids who came up to him to recite the plot of Bridge on the River Kwai instead of signing an autograph. However, Obi-Wan was always meant to die/vanish on screen. His "death" brings meaning to Episode IV and the fact that he still comes back to appear to Luke brings the audience gratification. So in other words the exact opposite of what would be accomplished by killing off Han Solo, but that seems likely to happen now more than ever. It has even been reported that there will be an obligatory clause in Ford's contract that says no death scene then no Harrison. Furthermore if Disney can get Hamil, Fisher, Daniels, and Mayhew back, but no Ford that will just be awkward so whether it's liked or not they more than likely will have to do it. In this case Harrison Ford has got them by the mouse ears. The real question is why? Ford was nobody before Han Solo made him a superstar. He hadn't acted in years and had almost completely given up acting to be a carpenter altogether when somebody from the studio recognized him from American Grafiti and said, "Harrison, what are you doing here? We got just the role for you." Good thing for him too. Ford was thirty-five and not getting any younger when A New Hope was made. Without Han Solo, Ford's star would have been lost to us forever. Still the actor has been increasingly vocal in recent years on how much he hates the old smuggler from Corellia. So, once again, it begs the question. Why does Harrison Ford hate Han Solo so much?
