Star Wars: Episode 8: 7 Things We Want From The First Trailer

1. Luke Skywalker

It feels like an absolute age since then, but ever since Disney acquired Lucasfilm back in 2012, fans up and down the globe have been eagerly anticipating the big-screen return of Luke Skywalker.

And even though the film's marketing never promised a sizeable part for him, we all expected one, so it was a bitter disappointment to discover that his role in The Force Awakens was nothing but a mere cameo - and it's even a stretch to call it that.

But Episode 8 has promised. The end of Episode 7 was basically a 'tune in next time to see more Luke!' cliffhanger, and from that, we can fully expect the next instalment in the saga to focus heavily on everyone's favourite blue-eyed Jedi, and that means Episode 8's marketing won't be over-promising if it uses him from the get-go.

Plus, one of the driving forces behind the success of The Force Awakens' marketing campaign (and film as a whole) was its use of nostalgia. Han Solo. Chewie. The Falcon. Luke arguably tops the lot, and with the amount of fervour surrounding his appearance, it seems wise to use him in the trailers where possible.

And wouldn't it be great to see him pop up? We don't want loads of lines from him or too much of his arc in the film to be revealed, but if we get a flash of him wielding his signature saber or a shot of him being reunited with C-3PO and R2-D2, excitement would hit the roof and the trailer would be one that people remember for years and years to come.
