Star Wars: Every Lightsaber Duel Ranked Worst To Best
1. Obi-Wan Kenobi Vs Anakin Skywalker - Revenge Of The Sith
There are three things that make a great lightsaber duel, all encountered in this list: choreography, emotion, and storytelling. In the final duel of the prequel trilogy, each aspect of the fight is brilliantly achieved. It's epic in both scope and length, pitting Obi-Wan against his fallen apprentice and friend in one of the most emotionally harrowing sequences in the entire franchise.
The fight (much like Yoda's showdown with Palpatine) symbolises Star Wars' core motif of good vs evil - only this time it's not just good vs evil, it's friend vs friend and brother vs brother. The fate of the Galaxy is at stake, but the true power of the duel comes from the broken relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin.
With its dark and fiery setting exploding and crumbling around them, the aesthetic looks as though they're fighting in the depths of Hell.
Sure, it can be argued that the duel is a touch over-choreographed in places, but that's not enough to take it away from its place as the best duel in the saga. It has it all and then some, and of course ends in truly soul-crushing fashion, as Obi-Wan leaves his old friend burning after cutting him down and proclaiming his brotherly love for him. It's simply perfection.
