Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Things Everybody Missed In The Trailer
2. No Episode VII
It was heavily implied when the title was announced on Twitter that Star Wars 7 would be dropping the Episode moniker and the trailer all but confirmed it, with no mention of VII. This hasn't stopped everyone, from die-hard fans to news outlets calling the film Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Clearly the habit is hard to break. This isn't as sacrilegious as you'd expect. Although the Star Wars movies have been known as numbered episodes since The Empire Strikes Back, they weren't part of the film's official titles until the prequels rolled around; originally they were just called The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi, with no Star Wars at all. In removing the Episode VII from The Force Awakens Abrams is only further tying his movie to the classics.
