Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Things Everybody Missed In The Trailer
3. New TIE Fighters
The Millennium Falcon shot was above and beyond the stand-out moment of the trailer, promising a blend of classic iconography and modern film-making - it makes The Empire Strikes Back's asteroid chase look like dusting crops. Eagle eyed fans were quick to point out that the Falcon looked slightly different from the ship from the Original Trilogy, with the radar dish Lando knocked off in the Death Star escape in Return Of The Jedi replaced with a more rectangular one. However, that's not the only old ship with a new look in this sequence. The TIE fighters, glimpsed at the very end, are sporting white wings; the solar panels were all-black in the previous movies. This was mainly due to the restrictions of compositing at the time, making this update rather in keeping with old movies, with Abrams merely taking advantage of the special effects advancements since the originals.
