Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Things Everybody Missed In The Trailer
7. Stormtrooper Height
This shot just begs a witty quoting of "aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?" - the guy in the focus of the shot is distinctly smaller in stature than that of his buddies. Of course, with this short sequence teal-ly lit and shot like a Bourne movie it's easy to miss that in place of the cool new design on the helmets. There's two big possibilities this opens up - this shorter guy's an impostor or, following Return Of The Jedi, the Empire's had to remove their previous sign-up restrictions on soldiers. The latter is both the more plausible (there appears to be more height variance throughout the queue) and opens up an interesting concept - an Empire on the back-foot. An oddly big source of controversy around the trailer was how The Force Awakens appears to be dealing with identity of Stormtroopers. Their predecessors, the Republic's clone troopers, were all genetically based on Jango Fett, but here there seems to be a lot more diversity, with them being of different heights and, obviously from Boyega, not looking like Temuera Morrison. This all seems a little off the point, however - the stormtroopers in the Original Trilogy are for the most part clearly not clones (the accelerated ageing would have made them too old come A New Hope and their voices clearly aren't Kiwi).
