Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker - Everything It Gets Wrong

12. Everything About Kylo Ren

Kylo is by far the most well thought out character in the new trilogy.

The son of Han and Leia who's trained by a nascent Luke and led astray by Snoke, Adam Driver plays Ren as a boy torn between the Light in his bloodline, and the fact all his most important role models have betrayed him.

This leads to being embraced by Snoke, but after killing his father and the Supreme Leader, then trying to partner with Rey in search of some sense of purpose, he's left broken and alone.

Rise of Skywalker's continuation?

To revert him back to the first movie - literally. Kylo is back to being a petulant teenager, thrashing in anger and killing all around him. His helmet is awkwardly reconstituted back to its original form - only for him to remove it all over again.

This wheel-spinning sense of repetition extends to recreating the scene where he kills Han Solo - only this time his cross-saber gets thrown into the sea instead.

We're then TOLD that "Kylo Ren is dead" and "Ben Solo lives", but the whole endeavour is unbelievably sloppy; the product of a trilogy handled by two completely different auteurs.
