Star Wars Rogue One: 10 Major Concerns From Trailer 3
3. Is Jyn Going To Be An Interesting Enough Protagonist?
Often, a film is only as good as its protagonist and from what we've seen so far Rogue One's protagonist looks comparatively weak. At least in Star Wars terms.
She has some daddy issues and is a rebel, which is about all we know so far. Dragged into the fight with the Empire, Jyn seems apprehensive of joining a group called the Rebel Alliance and seems set to rebel in a very rebellious way. She does all of this whilst telling people she's a rebel and shouting at other people that their rebels. There really better be more to her personality than that.
Much of the criticism aimed at Episode VII was towards Rey being bland, uninteresting and a 'Mary Sue'. There was very little to her character other than abandonment issues and inexplicably knowing how to use The Force. And the similarities between Rey and what we've seen so far of Jyn are troubling. The last thing we want is another underdeveloped lead on our hands.
If Jyn is not interesting enough, and the rest of the squad are kept out of the spotlight then Rogue One could be a very dull venture indeed.
