Star Wars: Rogue One - 10 Niggling Concerns No Fan Wants To Admit

1. A Story Needing To Be Told?

Rogue One isn’t necessarily a story which needed to be told. After all, the entire plot is based around a single sentence of supplementary information from the first film, conveyed almost in passing through the opening crawl, which managed to reduces the entire premise of Rogue One to fourteen words:

“During the battle, rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon”.

Rogue One is based almost entirely around this one throwaway line – which was originally designed to establish the larger, more significant story of A New Hope. This could mean one of two things: either the plot will seem ultimately inconsequential – a simple, unimportant side note in a larger galactic struggle – or, smaller aspects of the movie will be exaggerated to compensate for this particular deficiency – like how Ben Kenobi’s casual reference towards a possible clone wars was exaggerated into a pointless origins story for the Storm Troopers.

This particular concern might be the most difficult for the film to avoid, because it’s inherent in the story. Regardless, Rogue One will probably be an interesting experience, for better or worse.
