Star Wars Rogue One: 10 Reasons It's Awesome

3. It Is Truly A Standalone Movie

One of the most nagging questions surrounding Rogue One's release was whether or not it would simply be setting up a spin-off series starring at least a few of the movie's surviving characters. After all, if audiences respond to this new band of heroes, it'd probably be a waste not to use them again soon enough.

Rogue One has an interesting and not particularly unexpected answer to this question, refreshingly fashioning itself as a totally standalone movie that brings no baggage with it in terms of setting up another movie, as so many superhero movies these days struggle with for instance.

Yes, the film provides a very blatant lead-in to A New Hope, but the film concludes in an extremely definite manner that leaves very little room open (if any at all) for Rogue Two. And as enjoyable as the film was, that's very refreshing given the money Disney could probably make on a shoehorned follow-up.
