13. The Surprising Lack Of Character Developent

Rogue One is a 133-minute movie that has to introduce almost a dozen new major characters to audiences, and this is one area where the movie feels oddly lacking.

Considering that The Force Awakens did a remarkable job fashioning a new band of heroes and villains, it's a shame Rogue One barely develops the central heroes as people at all.

You likely won't even remember many of their names, and most of them fit some fairly basic archetypes (such as Donny Yen's wise martial artist) for the assumed sake of convenience.

In fact, the villainous Krennic honestly seems much better-developed than almost all of the heroes. Perhaps character development takes such a back seat because the filmmakers knew these characters wouldn't be sticking around, but it still makes the core of the film feel a bit empty.
