Star Wars: Solo Trailer 2 Reactions - 8 Ups & 3 Downs

6. The Western Feel

When it was announced that we'd be getting a Solo stand-alone, you could have been forgiven for making some assumptions about what we'd get to see. It looked like a no-brainer that it would essentially just be an origin movie establishing how Solo came to be the greatest pilot (or "driver and flyer" as he preposterously calls himself here) and crucially that it probably wouldn't deviate too far away from the feel of the original trilogy.

So it's great to see that Ron Howard is going for the same sort of approach as Rogue One originally intended to - marrying a different genre to the existing Star Wars spirit. In this case, the trailer really makes you feel like Solo is going to be a Western, not just in the musical cues and the swash-buckling pace, but in some of the speciifc shot choices.

And that's absolutely not a bad thing, as long as it's followed through properly (which Rogue One's war film agenda wasn't entirely).
