Star Wars: Solo Trailer 2 Reactions - 8 Ups & 3 Downs
5. The Aesthetic & Tone
On top of the gorgeous production design, the cinematography and some of the shot staging choices here are pure magic. We've not really got to see the criminal underbelly of the galaxy far, far away in any real terms (other than in flashes), but the murky look of those sequences in this trailer make it look like we're going to get a proper look at it.
There's a certain kind of affectionate "scruffy-looking" feel to everything (ironically apart from in the sparkling Falcon sets) and it definitely feels like the kind of world that would have given birth to the Han who turns up in A New Hope.
And perhaps because they can't fully count on legitimate stakes or threat, the tone here is all about fun. It works best when it feels like a caper, rather than when it aims for the same sort of doom of Rogue One, and it's no accident that there's a slight Ocean's Eleven vibe to the team-building elements. That's also not a bad thing.
