7. Passing The Lightsaber

The Trailer Moment: One of the biggest unexplained elements of The Force Awakens was how Luke's lightsaber, lost on Bespin, could turn up again here. People have been asking this ever since the laser sword showed up in the second teaser, being passed between two people who fans deduced were Leia and Maz Kanata. Where Was It? Maz Kanata is out of the story by the time Leia turns up, so this one's a little confusing; the background appears to be the Resistance base, whcih hints at an entire sub-plot that just wasn't in the movie. There were rumours pre-release that Maz's part had been reduced for some reason, and this shot seems to be a relic of that - perhaps there was originally intended to be an explanation of how she got the saber after all (heck, maybe the explanation itself was why it was cut). No doubt we'll learn more about the film's development in the coming months.
