4. How Is Lor San Tekka Linked To The Heroes?

Max von Sydow was in that initial casting announcement back in April 2014, so everyone assumed he'd have a sizeable role, probably the villain because, I mean, look at him. Nope, turns out he's Lor San Tekka, some old guy who lives on Jakku, gives Poe the map piece and is then brutally killed Kylo Ren.

Ignoring the map because that was the last entry, what's this guys deal? He’s described in the opening crawl as being “an old ally” to Leia and alludes to having some knowledge of the bigger picture with Snoke and Luke, so could answer literally all of the questions in this list. But instead he’s killed straight away and we have no idea what his connection is or how the whole plot got started.

There's nothing wrong with a character serving as set-up, teasing bigger reveals. But this is about answers and I want answers. And, given that he's dead, we're unlikely to get them (in the movies at least).
