Although every Star Wars writer has faced a daunting task in rewriting the expanded universe from the ground up, it must be said that Greg Rucka's was particularly difficult.
Kicking off the entire Marvel-Star Wars relaunch was the writer's Shattered Empire - a story that plugged in some of the gaps between Episode VI and the then yet to be released Force Awakens. Rucka completed the task with ease however, providing the foundations necessary for readers to jump into the wider Star Wars canon and the world J. J. Abrams' movie would be creating.
The book wastes no time in getting things started, jumping right into the Battle of Endor and tracing Luke Skywalker's steps in the aftermath of that battle. It might even hold some clues regarding The Last Jedi, so make of that what you will.
