8. It's Full Of Surprises

Again, no spoilers here, but if you thought you had The Last Jedi figured out based on the marketing and the expectations of a Star Wars movie, you'd be dead wrong.

Rian Johnson chooses to subvert the expected on countless occasions throughout the film to highly entertaining effect, with some of the most shocking moments feeling like Johnson straight-up toying with the audience.

Numerous times, something is set up to happen, before Johnson pulls back to reveal the opposite, and that he manages to do this without seeming smug about it is all the more impressive.

Above all else, there are things in this movie that just nobody will see coming, and considering how The Force Awakens had a thoroughly predictable throughline by comparison, that's incredibly refreshing.
