Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 23 WTF Moments
10. Del Toro’s Voice (And The Most Obvious Betrayal Ever)
Ultimately, Benicio Del Toro's hacker DJ is a rather limited character, on-screen for not very long at all and saddled with one of the least surprising arcs in Star Wars history.
That must be why the famed character actor decided to give him a speech impediment pulled wholesale from the Roger Rabbit school of performance arts. To stand out and simultaneously mask the fact that he was a pretty one dimensional figure who basically gave away the fact that he was only in it for the money immediately.
In all honesty, the entire hacker sub-plot could have been removed entirely and the story wouldn't have changed. We wouldn't have got the vaguely anti-elitist propaganda of the the destruction of Canto Bight, admittedly, but beyond that it's a narrative dead-end that simply reiterates the fact that our heroes make lots of errors and are poor judges of character.
