Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Every Deleted Scene Ranked From Worst To Best

11. Alternate Opening

This is a much slower start than the one we ended up getting, so thankfully, it was eventually cut.

There are several problems with this scene, but the biggest is that it doesn't really tell us anything new or important.

We see that Finn is still recuperating - which we knew from the end of The Force Awakens - and we see that the rebels are evacuating, which we're told in the opening crawl. The impending First Order threat is a situation that requires immediate attention, which is why the proper opening works much better for the story.

This scene is just unnecessary, and cutting straight to the action was a much better choice, and a far more exciting way to kick the movie off.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
