7. What Was Up With Palpatine's Son?

Perhaps the most bizarre and confusing subplot in the entire movie is the mid-film plot twist that Rey is actually Palpatine's granddaughter.

You'd expect the film to then devote at least a scene to explaining Rey's parents, right? Well, the film breathlessly races past this, simply explaining that Rey's father was Palpatine's unnamed son, whose face we catch a glimpse of for two or three seconds.

So, who was he? When did Palpatine even conceive him? Was he Force sensitive? And what was his relationship with his father?

We can assume from the fact that he hid Rey at the cost of his own life that he wasn't exactly on great terms with his dad, but even so, this part of the movie is so muddy and ambiguous that it's more annoying than enticing.
