4. There's A Lot Of New Stuff In There

This being the ninth movie in the Skywalker Saga (well, 11th really, but mainline only counts here), you could be forgiven for thinking we've seen all there is to see in of the universe. But JJ Abrams knows all-too-well that Star Wars shares something with Star Trek that cannot be left out of either: the urge to seek out new worlds, new experiences and new sensations for the fanbase.

With that in mind, it's great to see that The Rise Of Skywalker appears to be shaking things up a good deal more than might have been expected. Rather than just rearranging the chess pieces for a final assault on the Queen, we get a look at new worlds, new characters and the hint of a whole new story (though a vague on admittedly). And the ocean sequence, with its new take on a lightsaber battle and the sight of a ship effectively surfing is a wonderful hint of us seeing things we've never seen before.

But it's not all revisionist, because crucially, Abrams hasn't entirely left out the events of The Last Jedi - he didn't have to show Rose Tico, for instance, but she's in there (albeit briefly). And if you hated that weird space horse bit (paraphrasing the critics there, don't jump on me), then you're likely to love the fact that there seems to be an even bigger, extended weird space horse sequence in there. So take that!
