4. He Drove Jim Gordon Insane/To Crime/To Death
Batmans old crime-fighting collaborator Commissioner Jim Gordon has been suspiciously absent from the casting announcements for Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Maybe thats just because there are tonnes of characters in that film already, or perhaps theres actually a narrative reason. Maybe the Joker has done something to Gordon, which audiences will find out about in Suicide Squad, tying DC Entertainments two 2016 cinematic releases together. The Joker targeted Jim Gordon before, in Alan Moores iconic The Killing Joke comic book series. Therein, he tried to drive the police commissioner insane (by targeting his family with brutal attacks), in a bid to prove that even the most upright of citizens could be forced into Joker levels of madness. In the comics, Joker failed in this scheme. But in the movies - as one
Reddit user suggested - perhaps things played out differently. Maybe the Joker succeeded in driving Jim mad, leading the former policeman towards a life of crime and perhaps resultantly his death. Maybe Batman had to bring Jim down, and accidentally killed one of his few true friends in the process. Bruce Waynes trailer line 20 years in Gotham, how many good guys are left? How many stayed that way? could be seen as foreshadowing for this plot-line, which would certainly serve to drive an even bigger wedge between Batman and the Joker. If Batman V Superman skirts around the subject, perhaps audiences should expect big Jim Gordon revelations in Suicide Squad.
