Suicide Squad: 6 Major Spoilers Jared Leto May Have Revealed About His Joker
6. Story Beats From The Killing Joke
Warner Bros. recently announced plans for an animated feature based on Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's The Killing Joke, a controversial decision among feminists furious that DC plan on highlighting what they consider to be one of the most ill-conceived and inappropriate comic book moments featuring a female comic book character. Whether they're right about that is an argument for another day, but they're probably going to want to avoid Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice next year for similar reasons. For those of you unfamiliar with the story, it featured The Joker arriving at Barbara Gordon's house and shooting her. He them proceeded to strip her naked and take photos of her unconscious body (she survived the attack, but was confined to a wheelchair for years), which the villain would later use to try and drive her father insane. When the first official cast photo of the Suicide Squad was released, many fans asked why The Joker wasn't included, so director David Ayer jokingly followed that up with a photo of Leto recreating the iconic cover of The Killing Joke by holding a camera up and seemingly being the one responsible for taking it. Since then, the actor has shared a very obvious nod to that story which you can see above. He's clearly wearing a hat identical to the one the Clown Prince of Crime had on when he shot Barbara, but do these teases actually mean anything? It certainly sounds that way. That's because rumours point to The Joker showing up in flashbacks in Batman V Superman, with at least one of those featuring him shooting Batgirl (Jena Malone's most recently rumoured role) in a recreation of that famous scene from The Killing Joke. While they'll no doubt leave The Joker stripping her naked out of that, it's going to be very interesting to see how that iconic sequence is recreated in live-action.
