Sundance 2021: 20 Films You Need To Know About

Perhaps the most fiercely original film from Sundance, Dash Shaw's follow-up to My Entire High School Sinking Into the Sea is a visually mesmeric, enchantingly odd black comedy about a zoo containing cryptids - mythical creatures whose existence is only whispered about - and the keepers who care for them.

Even if Shaw's unapologetically weird storytelling might be too off-the-reservation for some, it's tough to argue with the kaleidoscopic animated style or the superb vocal performances from the likes of Lake Bell, Michael Cera, Angeliki Papoulia, Zoe Kazan, Peter Stormare, and Grace Zabriskie.

Cryptozoo won't be to all tastes, but as a diverting indictment of capitalism and contemporary living in general, it's destined to find a cult of devoted fans.

Cryptozoo will be distributed by Magnolia Pictures.
