Sundance 2022: 20 Films You Need To Know About
15. Cha Cha Real Smooth
Winner of the U.S. Dramatic Competition's Audience Award, Cha Cha Real Smooth is the second feature from S**thouse director Cooper Raiff, and confirms he's certainly no one-trick pony.
Raiff stars as Andrew, a 20-something who strikes up a friendship with young mother Domino (Dakota Johnson) and her autistic daughter, as he comes to learn what he really wants out of life.
It's a superficially typical story but one exceptionally well-wrought by writer-director-producer-star Raiff, overflowing with empathy for both the charming Andrew and the depressed Domino.
Easily one of the festival's biggest crowd-pleasers this year, it's little surprise that it's already been acquired by Apple TV+ for a mighty $15 million, representing the biggest sale of this year's fest.
Expect it to drop later in the year, and there could even be an awards season campaign for Johnson, who is magnificent here.
