The 2015 Alternative Movie Awards

Most Unexpectedly Great Performance - Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone has largely spent the last few years churning out disposable genre movies including three Expendables, Bullet to the Head, Grudge Match and Escape Plan. Reprising the role that gave him his big break almost 40 years ago, Stallone returned to play Rocky Balboa for a seventh time in Creed and gave one of the best supporting performances of the year by doing something that he has been reluctant to do for quite some time; act his age. Given that he's best known for the string of bullets and biceps fare that has defined his career for over three decades, its easy to forget that the 69 year-old can actually act, and its somewhat ironic that Stallone gives the best performance of his entire career in the first movie to feature the 'Italian Stallion' that he didn't write himself. Bringing all of the iconic character's baggage with him, the actor is as vulnerable and pained as we've ever seen him onscreen in an emotionally-charged turn, which has secured the ten-time Razzie winner a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor and placed him as a genuine dark horse in the same category at the Academy Awards.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
