In the trailer for The Batman, a man most have assumed to be The Riddler was shown murdering someone by covering his face in masking tape. Now, it appears as if their identity has been revealed as the funeral which has drawn so much attention appears to be for Gotham City's mayor.

This is likely a sign that the villain believes he's fighting back against the corruption which is overtaking his home, a mission Matt Reeves has already confirmed will be Batman's main mission during his second year of fighting crime.

A closer look at the placard which has been put up to pay tribute to the murdered man reveals that Spooks actor Rupert Penry-Jones will be taking on the role of the city's mayor in the DC Comics adaptation. Chances are he won't have a particularly significant part to play in The Batman, but the mayor's death has clearly drawn the attention of both Bruce Wayne and Gotham's criminals.

It makes sense for Bruce to attend an event such as this one given how well-known he is to the public, but chances are he's also there to keep an eye on the criminals who were in the mayor's pocket...
